And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
~ Marianne Williamson
Cities and communities are on the forefront of innovation and change. Increasingly, collaborative, cross-sector planning tables are emerging to focus on the complex issues challenging our communities including environmental sustainability, neighbourhood revitalization, poverty, health, crime, inclusion, and diversity. These tables are seeking to collectively impact the nature of our cities and the way decisions are made.
This innovation calls for a new type of leadership. Margaret Wheatley calls this 'pioneering leadership'. The 2012 Communities Collaborating Institute: Innovating Together will explore the themes of innovation, resilience and leadership highlighting creative cities and planning efforts that are reshaping how decisions are made.
The 2012 CCI promises to be a rich learning opportunity. Inspired by the latest insights of celebrated thought-leaders, it offers you the opportunity to rejuvenate and strengthen your ability to engage and mobilize citizens across multiple sectors to advance your community’s agenda.
Though many traditional learning methods, such as seminars and discussion groups, will be used at the Institute, the event's overall construct is based on building and solidifying a community of practice where people with diverse experiences of collaboration can share their passions, concerns and problems in order to deepen our collective knowledge and expertise.
Tamarack will convene the 2012 Communities Collaborating Learning Community in Kitchener, Ontario, from October 1-5, 2012.
Stay tuned for upcoming pre-event learning opportunities!
We know that leaders who are trying to implement innovative comprehensive, placed-based, community initiatives are more successful when they are linked to a wider group of like-minded people who share a commitment to deepening their knowledge and expertise by learning together on an ongoing basis. These groups, sometimes known as Communities of Practice, offer participants confidence, courage, accelerated learning and "the energy needed to stay in the challenges and struggles of pioneering something new."
