Calgary's Approach

Vibrant Calgary is a non-profit organization that works collaboratively, with various stakeholders and partners, to engage Calgarians and to advocate for long-term strategies that address the root causes of poverty in Calgary.  Vibrant Calgary believes that everyone has a right to fully participate in their communities.  Vibrant Calgary believes that there are important systemic factors that contribute to poverty and that the whole community has a vital role to play in changing these conditions. Vibrant Calgary believes that change occurs through engagement, inspiration and action.

Right to Vote

To vote in Calgary’s municipal elections, you need one of 12 forms of identification - most of which cost money or are difficult for poor or homeless people to obtain. Vibrant Calgary is asking that the city model its voting requirements after the federal and provincial requirements, which have fewer barriers to democratic participation. The Right to Vote campaign includes materials for potential voters that were produced in 2007.
