Économie communautaire de Francheville (ÉCOF) began as a community economic development corporation working in four of Trois Riviéres working class neighbourhoods. Their work led to, “La Démarche de revitalisation des premiers quartiers (First Neighbourhoods Revitalization Process) working in 11 neighbourhoods, using two strategies: stimulating and facilitating citizen participation and leadership and mobilizing community players across sectors to initiate action based on the needs identified by neighbourhood residents. La Démarche works to improve housing conditions, increase work incomes, to develop a learning culture, a stronger social economy and joint responsibility for responding to the needs expressed by residents of the priority neighbourhoods.

Security Initiatives in St. Michel
Vivre St. Michel en santé’s security club (“Club de securité”) recently celebrated a decrease in the crime rate in their Montreal neighbourhood with a press conference. The mayor of the district, Madam Anie Samson, talked about the synergy between organizations and elected officials "Together one can change the world,” she said. The local police chief, Commandant Fady Dagher, added "We need to keep supplying the media with positive events that happen in St. Michel”. The security club worked on safe transportation initiatives and a “”security angels” program that accompanied children to school. That program reduced school lateness, brawls and absenteeism as well, and is inspiring action internationally. Read more here. (en français)
