Abbotsford's Approach

Vibrant Abbotsford participants believe that they can reduce poverty. They hold the view that reduced poverty levels can be sustained through the interplay of enlightened attitudes, recognition of commonly held values and improved social networks and policies. Participants’ observations of life in Abbotsford have taught them poverty reduction requires citizens to adopt inclusive attitudes.  Residents can recognize where marginalized citizens experience economic, social and civic barriers to participation in the life of the community.

Abbottsford: Evaluating Candidates

Vibrant Abbottsford has promoted voter engagement in the upcoming municipal election via their Twitter feed and elsewhere. An Abbottsford researcher recently developed provided a checklist that can help voters choose based on qualifications rather than name recognition. The researcher engaged 20 community leaders to help develop a checklist that would help voters rate candidates for municipal elected positions according to 10 job qualifications, broken into three groups - knowledge, skills, and personal strengths. Read more here.  Vibrant Abbottsford has also been active researching and promoting a Living Wage for Abbottsford. They calculate that a wage earner working fulltime needs $16.42 to meet basic needs in Abbottsford.
