St. John's Approach

Vibrant Communities – St. John’s is a community based initiative that works collaboratively with voluntary, non profits, all levels of government, businesses and especially with people who live with low income/poverty. We connect partners and people to increase community engagement, capacity building and partnership development and we seek to assist at least 1500 households on the journey out of poverty by 2012. Through shared learning and dialogue, we work collaboratively to develop programs, shape policies and seek solution-focused actions that are helping to reduce poverty in our community.

Update

Youth, $ and kitchens in St. John’s

Fundraisers, donated gala tickets, community kitchens and online safety for kids are some of the new activities at Vibrant Communities St. John’s in Newfoundland and Labrador. VCSJ has also trained 12 organizations in leadership training for 13 to 14 year-olds in a program called EASY-E - Educating and Supporting Youth in Education. The goal is to increase high school completion rates for youth in low income neighbourhoods. This mentoring, encouragement and enhancement program will focus on targeting youth in grades 6 and up to support them in school and provide opportunities to enhance their educational and learning experiences.
