Dr. Steve Waddell, Executive Director of
Global Action Networks Net and Senior Associate of the Institute
for Strategic Clarity in Boston introduces us to Complex
Systems Organizing: Better Ways of Working Together.
Steve's work focuses upon change in complex
systems through something he calls “societal learning.”
This concept is useful for us to find better ways to work
together on the issues facing our communities.
The seminar covered:
- What is a complex system?
- Why is an understanding of complex systems important?
How can this understanding help us to address a community
issue?
- Are there distinct roles each actor can play in a community?
- What is societal learning?
Societal
Learning: Creating Big-Systems Change - This
article by Steve Waddell describes societal learning. Societal
learning almost always involves the collaboration of the
three organizational "sectors": government, business
and civil society organizations.
