| In order to learn
what motivates people and what aspects of faith we have in
common, we need to increase the dialogue between different
religious groups, agencies and organizations.
Faith communities and religious-based organizations
are major resources for building community, and addressing
social and systemic issues. Engaging in and across faiths
can be both personally and publicly beneficial.
Because of the profound sense of responsibility
most religions have to assist people in need, faith communities
have the power to bring individuals and groups together for
the greater good.
We asked faith leaders in our community to
share how their religious organizations discuss issues and
decide on actions for the well-being of the community.
Specifically, we asked:
- In your religion/faith group, what are the theological
principles, the rationale for the participant, or the
congregation/local organization becoming involved in community
health and well-being?
- How do participants in your faith group talk about
community involvement?
- How does the concept of mutual aid live out in your
faith group?
- What should others know about your faith when wishing
to engage with you?
The responses received to these questions
are as diverse as the faiths of the writers. We hope you will
enjoy learning more about these religions.
